WORKSHOPS / TRAINING / COMMUNITY
An important part of the local community, Ykids is a children’s charity that aims to ‘equip children and young people to become world changers’ by putting the needs of young children at the heart of everything they do. They achieve this by providing various different projects, programmes and clubs for children in the local community to get involved with.
Working with Ykids, we ran a 3 month program of workshops in which we trained children and their parents in a range of video production techniques. The aim was to equip them with the necessary skills so that they could produce their own online cooking show for the Ykids YouTube channel. The purpose of the show was to demonstrate how you can make a healthy meal on a budget. Our role was to train them to implement different skills such as, how to set up a film set, how to use different equipment such as cameras and much more.
It was a pleasure for us to play a role in developing the skills of these young people as well as providing fun activities that they could look forward to each week. As shown in the video above, both the children and their parents enjoyed learning about the different video techniques with the workshop we ran on animations being particularly popular! The project was thoroughly enjoyable to work on and a great success as the children were able to use their new found skills to produce their own cooking show.
The Not Just Cooking project was about more than just learning new skills though, for us, the joy in working with Ykids came with seeing the happiness it bought to each of its participants. The project was primarily aimed at single parent families and so it gave them a great opportunity to spend quality time together and make new friends.
